The hand carved phoenix spandrels and two open carved of Ganderma (a plant symbolizes auspicious in Chinese culture) side panels make this antique Chinese altar an beautiful console table in living room, dining room or hall way. This altar table with its original paint was handed made around 19th century by the craftsman from Shanxi providence, a providence with rich history and culture in the Northern part of China. The four phoenix spandrels are one of tradition Chinese spandrel carving designs. Two open carved of Ganoderma or Ruyi Sign side panels are pegs and tenon construction. Nice patinas and aged wood enhance beauty and antiquity of this Chinese long console table.

Those types of long narrow tables with everted flanges were usually placed in the formal central hall of a traditional Chinese house. It was frequently positioned against the back wall of the main hall under the hanging painting of ancestors. The food, flowers, and incenses were placed on table for the ancestors to protect the residents.
